It took a lot of guts and determination from our boys on the weekend to hang on for a thrilling 14-10 victory. The Northern Pride after coming off a 64-0 thrashing from the Sunshine Coast turned up to BMD Kougari Oval determined to prove they were a better team than they had shown the week before.
The Pride was boosted by the late inclusion of their playmaker Chris Sheppard and he proved dangerous with some deft passing. Their slick outside backs caused plenty of headaches for our players and it was only through our desperation in defence that we limited them to 10 points.
Jon Grieve injured his knee early in the match which caused some reshuffling in the Seagulls line-up. The injury doesn’t look as bad as initially though and hopefully he’ll only miss one game with the bye coming up the week after next.
Jake Granville and Willie Scanlan were our best and Jake in particular is making a real fist of his new positional change to fullback. Will was at his damaging best against the Pride with some brutal defence and some strong carries with the ball.
Congratulations to Matt Duncan and Bryce Richards who made the poinsettias representative team for the Fogs A-Grade competition. The team played in the A-Grade divisional carnival on the weekend at the gold coast and went through undefeated.
Hopefully tonight we will see Queensland wrap up the series at Suncorp Stadium. After a dominant display in the first game in Sydney they will improve with the inclusion of the worlds best hooker in Cameron Smith. It will be interesting to see if the switch of Hayne to fullback will make much of a difference. Will Billy Slater be looking for a square up after his altercation with Hayne last time they met. I hope so but we will find out soon enough Go You Maroons!!!
