Tweed Gives Wynnum the Boot E-mail

intrust super cup.jpgTHE Tweed Heads Seagulls completed a weekend of upsets in the Intrust Super Cup with their 42-16 win over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls at BMD Kougari Oval yesterday.

Wynnum were on the receiving end of a 58-12 hammering at the hands of Souths Logan last weekend – but in front of a good crowd, the home side seemed to have pushed that result out of their minds as they came out strongly to post the first two tries of the afternoon.

But Tweed fought straight back with two tries of their own through Tom Kingston – with one coming from a lunge from dummy half close to the line.

Brad Davis – who had an excellent day with the boot – kicked both conversions to pull his team in front 12-8 and finished the day with seven goals from seven attempts.

His counterpart Matt Seamark however, had a much harder time of it, and Tweed’s next try came after a leaping Shannon Walker tapped a Seamark kick for touch back into play to put visitors on the attack once more.

After working the ball to the right-hand side of the field they were in again thanks to Dominique Peyroux with six minutes to go until the break.

But it was Wynnum Manly who had the honour of scoring last in the half –with late call-up Vincent Silulu crossing for his second of three tries to see the teams enter the sheds with Tweed leading 18-12.

While it see-sawed in the first half – it was all Tweed in the second.

Their attack flowed and they scored two quick tries before Wynnum got their turn to counter attack.

To their credit, the home side got on the board again when Silulu ran over the line, but it was not enough given the amount of possession they had enjoyed.

Tweed made them pay once they got to their end of the field, thanks to a booming Davis kick finding them good position.

Kayne Lawton fired a pass to Walker, and the Wynnum tacklers made the mistake to hanging off him while he darted and weaved his way through the defence and over the line to score his 12th try this season.

Peyroux then completed the victory for Tweed Heads with his second try of the afternoon – another pounce from dummy half on the Wynnum line.

Playing for the Seagulls Cup for the first time since 2003, Tweed Heads were presented with the Cup by Wynnum Manly CEO Graham Murray.

Wynnum will look to regroup before travelling to North Ipswich Reserve next week to take on the Ipswich Jets while Tweed Heads will host Souths Logan at Ned Byrne Field.
