It was a disappointing afternoon for the seagulls last Sunday after being soundly beaten 42-16 by Tweed Heads. The Tweed team are a much better team than where they currently sit on the Intrust Super Cup ladder.
Tweed were steered by veteran playmaker Brad Davis who had a great game providing the Tweed team with plenty of direction and a clever kicking game landing 7 from 7.
Recently I have been critical of our starts to our games yet that wasn’t the problem last weekend after leading early 8-0. The most worrying thing for us at the moment is our defence after leaking 100 points in our last 2 games.
That is certainly something we need to address immediately if we are to play any role in this years semi-finals. We need to decide whether or not we want to challenge for the competition or if we are just making up the numbers. I know the boys are hurting and are determined to remedy any problems that have crept in to our game..
It was a weekend of upsets with all of the top teams being beaten by teams placed lower than them on the ladder. Luckily for us our position on the ladder hasn’t changed though, with other results going our way.
Our colts team had a 20 all draw with the Tweed counterparts who were full of Titans under 20’s players. It was a great effort by them considering the tweed team on paper though they certainly had their chances to win the game. Our Fogs A-Grade had a massive 76-10 win in their match.
Next week we head to Ipswich in a must win game for the seagulls on Sunday. I will be looking for a much improved effort particularly in defence.
