The Wynnum Manly Seagulls underwent a rigorous training camp at a property near Leyburn recently under the control of rugby league tough men Shane Webcke and Andrew Gee. Both former legends of the game, Webcke and Gee know what it takes to succeed and were the main facilitators for the camp program. Their guidance during the three days was fantastic for the players.
Everyone was kept in the dark about this year’s camp but their excitement was short lived once Webcke and Gee addressed them about what to expect over the three days. Log carries, vehicle pushes, food rations, and sleep deprivation were just part of the program designed to bond the players in readiness for the coming season. Team work was the name of the game to get through the arduous program and the boys really stepped up to the plate. Both Shane Webcke and Andrew Gee were impressed with the effort from the boys and feel the team is on the right track.
It had the desired effect with some really good feedback from the players. Coach, Paul Green was pleased with the result and he now has a better understanding of what make the player tick. There were some quality efforts and the leaders tended to shine when the going got tough working well to get their team mates across the line. The Players are now looking forward to the trials commencing in early February.
