The Seagulls Academy got off to a flying start last Saturday with the U18's knocking off their more facied rivals, the Gold Coast Blue 22-12. After trailing for most of the game the young gulls hit the front with 15mins to go and then secured a late try to run out winners which will help set up their season.
The Gold Coast Blue are primarily made up of scholarship players from the Titans development program so this made the win all the more significant. It gives our Academy program some credibility and shows our affiliates that we can develop our young players very well.
In the earlier game the U16s went down 16-6 to the Gold Coast but had their chances also to get the win. Ball handling was an issue in both games and this will improve as we move forward. Coaches, Nigel Roy and Wade Bachmann were pretty happy with the effort from the players in both games and have peace of mind knowing that both teams have plenty of room for improvement. The boys head to Briggs Rd this Saturday night to take on Ipswich and hopefully we can keep the momentum going.
