From The Gulls Nest...
Finally after a long and torrid pre-season the boys were able to release some frustration on the opposition rather than each other which has been the case at training so far. It was a typical first hit out with the game having plenty of stoppages through handling errors. Players are understandably rusty and the humidity at this time of the year makes catching and passing more difficult than usual. It was good to blow the cobwebs off though and the players used that trial to work on timing in defence and some new combinations in attack.
There were some positives that came from the match. Wayne Bennett showed last year with his Dragons that you can build a game around defence particularly early in the season. To keep Ipswich to nil was pleasing and gives us a good starting point to work from.
New signing Shea Moylon was dangerous in attack with his running game capped off by a nice individual try. Will Scanlon and Jack Afamasaga were very good up the middle also, setting the tone of the match with some solid defence and hard running.
The country supporters will get a taste of the Qld cup action this week with the game against North’s being played in Dalby. This will give us a better indication of where we are at as North’s should give us some stronger opposition than last week.
Congratulations to our Mal Meninga cup team which had an upset victory over Gold Coast Blue on Saturday. The Gold Coast had a sprinkling of Titans contracted players in the team so to get the victory was a great team effort.
