From the Gulls Nest...
Country Carnival a Great Idea!
Dalby got a taste of Queensland cup rugby league on the weekend and the locals turned out in numbers to support the idea. Norths devils have an affiliation with the Dalby club which led to us playing the trial match on the downs.
I think its a great idea and the QRL should look at all Brisbane clubs doing the same for their second trial matches next year. Have all Brisbane teams travel to the bush on the same weekend and create a country carnival. It gives the small country football clubs an opportunity to host the games and raise some much needed money for the grass roots. The locals always come and support these games adding atmosphere to what would normally be a small crowd if played in the city.
Whilst I am never happy after a loss it was a good opportunity for me to see some players in different positions. Norths won the game 28-14 through some poor ball control by the Seagulls. I hope my players learned a valuable lesson from the loss against Norths. We must respect the ball more if we are to be a threat in this competition. Like my old coach use to say you can’t win without it.
With our last trial against Burleigh this week I will be looking to pick close to my best side. There will be five quality games this Saturday so get down to Kougari early to cheer the boys on.Both our under 16’s and 18’s are coming off good wins so they will both be looking to maintain their momentum this weekend.
