From the Gulls Nest...

180px-birdsniper 1.jpgIt was a hollow feeling after the weekend’s game. When the final hooter sounded both teams had failed to trouble the scorer. Never have I been involved in such a bizarre game of rugby league. To finish at nil-all had all the historians reaching for their record books. In fact only 3 times in history has there been a nil all draw in the Brisbane top grade competition. (1918 Wests v Valleys; 1925 Brothers v University and 1947 Wests v Souths).

From The Gulls Nest...

180px-birdsniper 1.jpgParents that think their kids have to play premier grade junior rugby league in order for them to be noticed please look closely at the Broncos team for round 1 against the Cowboys. Capalaba Junior, Mitchell Dodd’s is all set to make his NRL debut this weekend and is a classic example of how our development pathway here at the Seagulls works.

I have no problem and in fact encourage both junior clubs and their players to strive to do their best. To claim that only players that play premier grade get developed is a fallacy and Mitchell Dodds is the latest proof of that.

dodds 09 (custom).jpgMitchell Dodds has secured a spot on the bench for the Broncos for their Rd 1 clash against the Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium. It will be his debut at NRL level and his selection has him go on record as the first home grown player to achieve NRL honors with the Broncos as part of our development pathway.

Originally from Capalaba, Mitchell was first selected into our Seagulls Academy squad by Shane McNally. From there he caught the eye of Broncos talent scouts after being chosen to participate in an affiliate program. The rest is history...

Seagulls CEO, Mark Rockley presented Gary(pictured) with the No 1 Jersey which will be mounted and framed with the Signatures of the 2010 Qld Cup Squad.

In other key announcements Darren Bain was named Qld Cup team captain for 2010 and Luke Dalziel Don was named as Club Captain. Both players are long term players at the club and very deserving of their appointments.
