Match Report presented by George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals
Saturday saw the Ipswich Jets come to BMD Kougari Oval for Round 9 of the Hostplus Cup.
On paper the Seagulls were expected to win, but with Ipswich’s new affiliation with the Gold Coast Titans, and their recent encouraging performances, they presented a difficult challenge.
The crowd swelled just before kickoff to ensure the Gulls would have their usual Chook Pen support.
Sefa Roache-Faimalo and Sione Hopoate scored first and second for the Seagulls to open up a 10-0 lead after 18 minutes.
Kurt Falls then scored to make it 16-0 after 31 minutes.
Ipswich hit back just before halftime to make it 16-4 at the break.
Wynnum Manly continued the second half the way they started the first as a consistent run of tries took the game away from Ipswich.
Kalolo Saitaua scored in the 51st minute, then Connor Broadhurst in the 57th, Sefa Roache-Faimalo again in the 63rd and then Kurt Falls got his double and sealed the game in the 75th minute.
Similar to the first half, the Jets scored a late consolation try.
The final score was 40-8 to the Seagulls who entertained the Chook Pen crowd on a great Saturday afternoon.
Our next game is at Ron Stark Oval, North Stradbroke Island, 3pm Sunday against the Sunshine Coast Falcons. This is an Indigenous recognition match supported by Deadly Choices, Redland City Council and Yulu-Burri-Ba.
