CARINA EDGES SEAGULLS IN ELIMINATION FINAL

Written by Clare Quilty

Wynnum-Manly’s BRL A Grade season came to an end on Sunday, with the Seagulls going down 30-24 to Carina in a hard-fought elimination final at Leo Williams Oval.

With their season on the line, the Seagulls entered the clash knowing a win was essential to keep their premiership campaign alive. The result brought an end to Wynnum-Manly’s 2026 season, while Carina progressed further into the finals series.

The two sides had already met earlier in the season, with the Seagulls defeating Carina 34-24 at BMD Kougari Oval in Round 6. Sunday’s clash provided another competitive encounter between the sides, this time with considerably more at stake.

The Seagulls crossed four times throughout the contest, with Travis Larner, Tristan MacDonald, Riley Frame and William Parslow all finding the try line.

Wynnum-Manly also remained clinical with the boot, converting all four of their tries. Payton Gifford landed one conversion, while Lachlan Hanneghan successfully converted the Seagulls’ remaining three.

Carina matched the Seagulls’ attacking output with five tries and added four conversions, before a penalty goal helped push the home side to the six-point victory.

Despite trailing on the scoreboard, the Seagulls continued to fight throughout the elimination final and stayed within striking distance until the final result was decided.

The 30-24 defeat brings Wynnum-Manly’s BRL A Grade campaign to a close, with the Seagulls set to regroup ahead of the 2027 season.
