Social Sport at the Seagulls

The Wynnum Manly Seagulls own and operate two social sport franchises within the Bayside Community. Touch Rugby League (TRL) is played on Monday and Wednesday across Mixed and Men’s Divisions. Monday nights are played out of Capalaba Warriors Rugby League and Wednesdays are played at Wynnum Juniors. We currently have close to 40 teams spread across our competitions, with varying age and ability of players.

Our Netball competition is run out of the Wakerley District Courts on Manly Road. We currently play on Monday and Tuesday nights. Mondays we have both Ladies and Mixed competitions available and on Tuesday we have Ladies only. We have just over 30 teams that play across the two nights, and have plenty of room for more! Our mixed netball competition is only one season in and we have received great feedback! As with TRL, our netball competition varies in age and ability. Across TRL and Netball our youngest age we allow is 14 years old.

We also are always on the hunt for casual TRL referees and Netball umpires who want some extra fitness and cash to help our games operate. We have 3 time slots a night across TRL and Netball and are always keen to train extra referees and umpires.

Packed courts at Seagulls Netball

We have 4 seasons for both our social sport competitions which are 10 weeks long. Our netball competitions break for school holidays, while our TRL competitions roll straight through each season. Our Autumn season for TRL is now open for registration – first night of play will be March 6th for Capalaba Mondays and March 8th for Wynnum Wednesdays. Pricing and more information can be found on our website; https://www.trl.com.au/redlands/.

Our Autumn season for netball isn’t too far away, with our Monday night competition for ladies and mixed due to start on Monday March 20th. More information about our netball competition can be found on our website; https://www.seagullssports.com.au/netball/.

If you want any more information about either of our social sport competitions, please feel free to contact Mikkayla on 0434 354 045 or email redlands@trl.com.au or netball@seagullssports.com.au.

Ireland International O’Hagan Signs With Seagulls

Ireland Wolfhounds international, Brendan O’Hagan, has recently landed in Australia to join the BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls for the 2023 season.

Brendan most recently played for the York Knights in the UK’s Championship League, the second tier of rugby league in the country.

Having been granted a release from York, Brendan felt the time was right, and is excited to return home to Australia to be closer to friends and family.

He played 27 games for York and scored 12 tries, leading the team to the Championship playoff last season.

The 24 year old from Gosford, NSW, is a halfback/hooker and played in all three of Ireland’s matches at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.

O’Hagan has slotted into life as a Seagull very easily, making his mark in training, and currently lives with a few of his Wynnum teammates.

We’re looking forward to seeing Brendan on the field in the red and green very soon!

Full Season Draws Released on QRL Website

Queensland Rugby League has today released the season draw for each statewide competition on their website.

This update comes ahead of Round 1 for our McDonalds Seagulls Academy teams on Saturday at Capalaba rugby league club. Our Cyril Connell Challenge U16s, Mal Meninga U18s and Harvey Norman U19s Women will head to John Frederick Park to take on the Burleigh Bears.

Seagulls supporters will now be able to navigate easily between teams and competitions to follow where we are playing in 2023.

Eager-eyed fans of Wynnum Manly will notice that there are 8 Hostplus Cup games at BMD Kougari Oval in 2023, which is a very pleasing result. Each draw can be seen here: QRL Website

Our Round 3 match for both Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership will take place on the grounds of our Premier Partner Iona College. Iona have been a great supporter of the Seagulls, especially our Women’s program, and it is a pleasure to host one of our games at this iconic Bayside school.

While annual fixtures at North Stradbroke Island and the Fraser Coast region (Maryborough) will still go ahead, these have been negotiated with our respective opponents to move their home games away instead of ours. We’d like to thank the Sunshine Coast Falcons and Souths Logan Magpies for working through this process with us.

Overall, Seagulls supporters can look forward to more home games at BMD Kougari Oval in 2023, without losing our connection to the Iona College, Redlands and Fraser Coast communities.

We will release Season Passes and corporate hospitality tickets closer to Round 1, and also keep you upto date with kickoff times etc.

Trial Matches This Weekend

This Saturday 11 February, the Seagulls will head across the gateway to Norths Devils for 5 trial matches across different grades.

Especially for our Hostplus Cup men, this is a great opportunity to test themselves against last year’s Premiers before the season kicks off.

Norths will have a BMD Premiership team for the first time this season, while our girls are looking to go one better than last year and make the Grand Final.

For the U16s and U18s, this will be their second trial in consecutive weeks before their Round 1 games against Burleigh next weekend.

It is an exciting time around BMD Kougari Oval, coming off the back of the game against the Broncos, with Round 1 matches not too far away.

We hope some Seagulls supporters can make it over to Norths on Saturday!

Game Details:
1.20pm – Cyril Connell Challenge U16s
2:40pm – Mal Meninga Cup U18s
4:10pm – Harvey Norman U19s
5:30pm – BMD Premiership
7:00pm – Hostplus Cup

Jack Croft to Join the Seagulls from Wakefield

Former Wakefield Trinity player Jack Croft is heading down under for the 2023 season.

Croft played 16 games for the West Yorkshire-based Super League club, before finishing with the club at the end of the 2022 season.

The Seagulls are excited to welcome Jack to the Bayside, as his addition will bolster the quality of our outside backs.

A speedy centre or winger, Jack progressed through the Wakefield academy system to wake his debut for the club in 2019 at just 19 years old.

Now 22, Croft has set his sights on a new challenge in a different environment with the hopes of progressing to an NRL system.

We’re eager to get Jack down to BMD Kougari Oval in the coming weeks and share some more information with our supporters.
