After a slow start, our BMD Premiership team is on the board with a thrilling win in Round 4.
With two 6-point losses in a row, the girls were primed for a win as they showed improvement each week.
This game formed part of an all-girls rugby league carnival in the Fraser Coast region, hosted at Ralph Stafford park, home of the Hervey Bay Seagulls.
After previously playing two matches at the same ground in recent years, as part of a partnership with Fraser Coast Regional Council and Deadly Choices / Galangoor Duwalami health clinic, we were delighted as a club to head back to Hervey Bay.
Our girls were guests at a gala dinner on Friday night, and as always in the Fraser Coast region, were treated extremely well, with plenty of local juniors flocking for photos and a chat.
We also arrived early on Saturday to watch some other girls games that were part of the carnival.
Capras were the first on the board in the 2nd and 9th minutes to open a 10-0 lead before Tayla Sykes score for the Seagulls in the 18th minute.
The Capras scored again just before halftime to lead 16-4 going into the break.
Coach Ron Troutman’s halftime speech must have been a beauty as the Seagulls girls changed gears in the second half.
Within a few minutes, Princess Elliot had scored to start the comeback.
Indee Brown then scored a double in the 52nd and 61st minutes to leave the scores tied at 16-all. The prop forward ran into a hole for each try and carried players with her over the tryline in two strong runs.
Then Charlotte Vandermeer scored on the last play of the game, with on 30 seconds remaining, to put the Seagulls in front for the first time in the game.
Final score 20-16, in front of a boisterous Hervey Bay crowd.
Our next BMD Premiership match is this Saturday at 1:30pm away at the Mackay Cutters, followed by our Hostplus Cup team at 4pm.
Both teams return home to BMD Kougari Oval the following Sunday 20th of July.
