Big Win Against Falcons Continues Momentum

A successful Saturday night for our Hostplus Cup team on the Sunshine Coast  continues their recent momentum of strong performances.

Winning 46-18 after a dominant second half solidified 3rd spot on the ladder for our boys.

Earlier in the day, our BMD Premiership team played their second game of the season.

The girls were down 16-4 at halftime and fought back to be within a chance of tying the game off the last paly, but unfortunately went down 20-14.

They are winless after two games but showing improvement week to week.

Our Hostplus Cup team started with a bang as Delouise Hoeter scored in the second minute.

Then we conceded 3 tries as the Falcons ran with a strong wind behind their back.

Selwyn Cobbo got on the board for the Seagulls, followed by Liam Sutton to close out a topsy-turvy half of football.

It was goal kicking that split the score at halftime, with 3 tries each. Falcons led 18-14.

Fullback Ben Farr had another great game and was at his elusive best with two tries.

The second half was a different story as the Seagulls put on 7 tries to none in a complete whitewash.

Playing with the wind this time, the Seagulls dominated field position and played to their attacking strengths.

Tries were scored by Hoeter (41st), Chaz Jarvis (46th), Ben Farr (49th), Hoeter (54th), Jarvis (60th), Jaiyden Hunt (65th) and Farr (70th) to round out a clinical second 40 minutes.

Goal kicking was tough on the night considering the breeze, as we finished 3 from 10.

In sad news, winger Sione Hopoate will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. This follows the long-term injury to opposite winger Ron Philitoga last weekend. But the Seagulls will battle on despite these setbacks and look to push towards finals football with momentum.

Our next match is at home against the Redcliffe Dolphins on a big day at BMD Kougari Oval. The feature match of the round will be preceded by the NRLQ match between the Broncos and Dolphins.
