The Seagulls and Souths Logan Magpies played for the Mitch Cronin Cup in Round 13, with the total aggregate score determining the winner of the coveted trophy.
Playing at Davies Park, West End, for the first time since in more than 5 years, the Seagulls took a 34 point lead into the game after winning the first clash 54-20.
Both teams walked out carrying their number 9 jerseys, which were retired for the day in tribute to Mitch. A video presentation and moment of silence also took place before kickoff.
After a slow start where the Magpies scored the opening two tries across the first 20 minutes, Ben Farr got the Seagulls on the board in the 25th minute with a typically elusive slice through the defence to score in the corner.
Farr had a double 7 minutes later, but this time he bashed his way between defenders to fall over the line and put the Seagulls in the lead 10-8.
The Seagulls lost winger Ron Philitoga to a high ankle sprain early on, with Chaz Jarvis coming on at centre.
Liam Sutton kicked an early field goal on the last play of the first half to ensure an 11-8 score at halftime.
Souths also started the second half as they did the first, with an early try to jump back into the lead.
Selwyn Cobbo, in his second game for the Seagulls in 2025, then out-jumped his opposite number from a Liam Sutton kick, and wrestled his way to the ground for a try to gain back the momentum. 15-14 Seagulls.
Liam Sutton put Jaiyden Hunt through a hole 30m out and he went on the step the fullback to score under the posts to extend the Seagulls lead.
Sutton was at it again 6 minutes later when he bounced off his tackler and broke the line to kick for Chaz Jarvis to score in the corner.
A 4th consecutive try assist to Sutton came when he delivered another short ball to Jaiyden Hunt who scored his second try to seal the game in the 75th minute.
Final score 33-20 to the Seagulls. The aggregate score was more than enough to claim the Mitch Cronin Cup for the first time, and importantly take 2 points from the game as well.
Up next we travel to the Sunshine Coast to take on the Falcons across two games, at 3:30pm for BMD Premiership and 5pm for Hostplus Cup on Saturday afternoon.
