Burleigh Too Good For Seagulls In The Wet

The BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls hosted to Burleigh Bears on Sunday in both the Hastings Deering Colts and Hostplus Cup competitions.

Burleigh were second in both grades, with the Seagulls just behind, and presented a tough challenge.

Our Colts held a lead for more than 60 minutes but unfortunately couldn’t hold on, finishing 36-20 to a fast-finishing Bears side.

The Hostplus Cup teams kicked off at 2:10pm on the feature broadcast match in front of a good crowd considering the rain throughout the day.

Burleigh broke out to a 16-0 lead after 22 minutes, before Ollie Pascoe hit back to get the Seagulls on the board.

Unfortunately for the Seagulls, Burleigh maintained their momentum throughout the second half and finished with a 35-6 win.

Josh Stuckey was our strongest performer and earned the Player of the Match and Player’s Player with a very physical performance.

Next week we head over to North Stradbroke Island to take on the Souths Logan Magpies in an Indigenous recognition match.

On Sunday 13 August, we’ll have junior games and market stalls before the main game at 2pm.

If you are heading over to Stradbroke Island, use the code HOSTPLUS2023 when booking your ticket for 20% off.
