Mitchell Cronin has been confirmed as the BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls captain for Season 2020.
In his first year leading the side, the Intrust Super Cup veteran took the Seagulls all the way to Grand Final and the club and players hold high aspirations of being there on the last day in September once again.
“I was really proud of how the team came together last year with a lot of new players and to make it to the grand final was a great achievement. The whole group is fully focused on going one better this year, but at the same time that is the past and everyone starts equal for round 1.”
Cronin will be ably supported by the leadership group which features Seagulls regulars Matiu Love-Henry, Aaron Rockley, Delouise Hoeter, Sam Scarlett and the newly promoted Max Elliott. And the club’s history is not lost on the players.
“It is a privilege to lead this club, especially when you consider some of the great names and leaders that have come before us with the likes of Miles, Lewis and even Dalziel-Don more recently. As a leadership group we want to make our fans, members, sponsors and past players proud and uphold the standards that have been set.”
Cronin and co will get their first chance to do just that when they take on their Grand Final adversaries the Burleigh Bears in Round 1 at Pizzey Park next Sunday 15 March.
If you can’t make it to Burleigh to support the team you can still tune in live on Channel 9 from 12:10pm.
