BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls travelled to the Tweed Seagulls on Easter Saturday to play the rescheduled Round 1 match.
Tweed opened the scoring and went up 12-0 in the first 24 minutes.
Kalolo Saitaua, starting on the bench, came on and got the Seagulls on the board in the 28th minute as he bulldozed his way over 3 Tweed defenders from a short ball.
Sione Hopoate then scored in the corner just before halftime after Jock Madden switched the play back down the shortside and Ben Farr threw a long cutout ball to his winger.
Tweed led 14-12 at halftime.
Saitaua got his second try on the back of a huge opening second half set, as he barged his way through off a Cameron Bukowski short ball at the goalline.
Tweed hit back before Hopoate got his second try of the afternoon off a pinpoint Jock Madden kick into the corner.
Jamie Hill continued his tryscoring form as he dived over in broken play following a Tweed error from Madden bomb.
Wynnum Manly led 30-18 and appeared comfortable, before Hopoate was sent to the sin bin.
Tweed scored two tries in that time to close the gap to two points, before Madden kicked a penalty to lead 32-28.
The game remained at that score for 10 minutes as Tweed tried everything to close the gap. However, it was Chaz Jarvis who iced the game for Wynnum Manly in the 77th minute with a jinking run from dummy half to score under the posts. He let out a roar and was swamped by his teammates, as the boys knew they were home.
Jock Madden was perfect from the tee again with 7/7, and the Seagulls went on to win 38-28.
