Seagulls and Iona College extend partnership to 2024

On the eve of the second Seagulls match at Iona College, the club are pleased to announce the extension of their partnership with Iona until 2024.

The Wynnum Manly Seagulls are very proud and appreciative of the connection with Iona, and currently have a number of Iona students in their Mal Meninga Cup and Cyril Connell Challenge teams.

The Seagulls provide a clear pathway from Iona student to Seagulls Hostplus Cup squad member, exemplified by recent Iona College graduates, Harrison Graham and Max Plath.

The extension of the partnership between the Seagulls and Iona was a simple decision after the success of 2021. Iona have also extended their 2021 investment to become a diamond partner of the Seagulls Women’s program.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls CEO, Hanan Laban, said “We are very excited and proud to extend our partnership with Iona College through to 2024. This partnership will support both the Men’s and Women’s programs at the Seagulls.

“Fr Michael Twigg (in main picture above with Max Plath and Harrison Graham), Principal Trevor Goodwin and the team at Iona have been wonderfully supportive of our vision to provide equal pathways and opportunities in rugby league to young boys and girls on the Bayside.

“It is special and significant that our first ever Senior Women’s game in the BMD Premiership will be held at Iona College. This match is free to the community and offers the chance for everyone in the community to attend the match and see our teams in action. We are expecting a crowd of 3,000-4,000 people on the weekend which shows the huge support on the Bayside for the Seagulls!

“Our Women’s program is very important for the Club and aligns with our Club vision to be the best community club in Australia. We have had great success in developing future NRL players and now we are putting the same focus to develop NRLW players of the future. We are very proud to have Jayde Herdegen (Broncos), Jacinta Carter (Broncos) and Jayda Lofipo (Titans) who played in our inaugural Harvey Norman Women’s U19s team last season, and are now members of our BMD Premiership squad, earn NRLW training opportunities this season.

We look forward to many more players to follow in their footsteps in the future!

In the wake of International Women’s Day’s theme of #breakingthebias – the Seagulls Women’s Program is forging a path in rugby league for female athletes and provide opportunities to ALL sportspersons. All of this is possible thanks to the wonderful support of our partners, especially Iona College.”

Don’t miss our Seagulls Men, Women and Academy teams in action this Saturday 26 March at Iona College (85 North Rd, Lindum, 4178 QLD).
