Seagulls Secure Important Win In Townsville

BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls made the trip north on Saturday to take on the Townsville Blackhawks.

Our second farthest away trip of the season, this was an important game for the Seagulls to maintain some recent momentum.

In the earlier game, our Hastings Deering Colts went down 32-18 in a tough game where they lost 2 players to significant injury.

The Hostplus Cup team were buoyed by the late inclusions of Keenan Palasia and Deine Mariner, who had played for the Brisbane Broncos the week earlier in New Zealand.

In support on the sideline were 35 of the Seagulls valued sponsors, who made the trip up to support our team.

The Blackhawks opened the scoring in the 15th minute before Gideon Gela Mosby hit back with an intercept and ran 65m to score in the 20th minute.

A similar few minutes occurred towards the end of the first half when Townsville scored in the 36th minute before Josh Simm dove over for a spectacular finish on the halftime buzzer.

Josh Rogers then converted from the sideline, right in front of our sponsors area, to tie the scores at 12-12 at the break.

After halftime, an early penalty to Rogers saw the Seagulls move to 14-12 in front.

Then prop forward Jack Martin barged his way over for 2 tries in 8 minutes to blow the game apart. At that point, the Seagulls were leading 26-12.

Bailey Hartwig and Josh Rogers sealed the game when they each scored in the final 10 minutes, closing out a 38-12 win.

Rogers was perfect with the boot again, kicking 7/7 in drizzly overcast conditions.
