Weekend Wrap

Weekend Wrap brought to you by George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals.

All six Seagulls teams were on show on Saturday across two venues.

Our McDonalds Seagulls Academy teams hosted the Burleigh Bears at BMD Kougari Oval in Round 3. While our Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership teams travelled to Toowoomba to take on the Western Clydesdales in their final trial matches before Round 1.

Cyril Connell Cup boys were up first, with our Seagulls looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season. It wasn’t to be as Burleigh got the win 26-18.

Mal Meninga Cup was up next, and Burleigh proved too strong as they went on to win 36-18.

Harvey Norman U17 girls were the third game as the Seagulls looked to get their first win of the day. Unfortunately Burleigh were too strong again, and won 20-14.

The final match of the day at BMD Kougari Oval was the Harvey Norman U19 girls, as the rain that had threatened all day started to fall. The game was 0-0 at halftime, with Burleigh eventually finishing stronger to win 18-4.

Over in Toowoomba, our BMD Premiership women kicked off against the Western Clydesdales in their second trial of 2024. Strong performances from Emma Barnes, Jayde Herdegen and Indee Brown led the way to a Seagulls victory, 16-14.

Our Hostplus Cup team then kicked off their second trial match this season, following their game against the Brisbane Broncos two weeks ago. The Seagulls ran away 46-6 victors, showing a lot of positive signs heading into Round 1 on March 9 in Papua New Guinea.

A special mention to five of our Hostplus Cup squad who were selected by the Broncos to play in their trial match down in Manly. Kurt Falls, Cooper Page Wilson, Josh Stuckey, Kalolo Saitaua and Sione Hopoate all worn the maroon and white, instead of the red and green, as they comfortably beat the Manly Sea Eagles to help the Broncos win the 2024 Pre-Season Challenge.

This Saturday, the Gulls are back in action as we head down the highway to face Souths Logan Magpies across 5 games.
