The BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls’ Intrust Safe Hands BRL A Grade side have progressed to the Semi Finals after a 32-20 victory over the Easts’ Tigers at BMD Kougari Oval.

After going down at half-time 14-6, the Gulls mounted a spirited second half comeback to grab the Round 1 Finals’ win.

Half Mitchell Moore scored a brace and captain John Te Reo was perfect with the boot, kicking six from six.

The win takes the Gulls to a Grand Final qualifier against the Wests Brisbane Panthers, who lost 26-22 to the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Major Semi Final.

The match will take place at WJ Scott Park (Easts Juniors) on Saturday 8 September at 3.15pm.

Unfortunately the Hastings Deering Colts’ side were knocked out of the finals race with a 28-6 loss to the Victoria Thunderbolts at AAMI Park.

The match was the curtain raiser to the NRL Storm v Panthers match and Melbourne fans watching on would have admired the courage shown by the Junior Gulls.

With a huge injury toll which was further impacted by the loss of Lachlan Perry in the warm-up, the Junior Gulls were valiant as they took on the imposing Thunderbolts’ pack.

Colts’ Player of the Year Shannon Gardiner scored all of the points for the visiting Wynnum side and Travis Leo played defended with plenty of heart out wide.
