The Intrust Super Cup will head to North Stradbroke Island’s Ron Stark Oval when the BMD Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Souths Logan Magpies go head to head on Sunday, April 28.

The match-up is designated as the Seagulls’ Indigenous Recognition game and will be the fifth time the club has taken a game to the Island.

Supporters will be encouraged to head to the island to watch the game on the beautiful Redlands Coast or they can tune into the live Channel Nine coverage at the kick off time of 1.10pm.

The event will have multiple activities on offer for kids and families as well as the opportunity to meet a host of stars, headlined by rugby league icons Petero Civoniceva and Steve Renouf.

Seagulls’ Chief Executive Officer Hanan Laban is excited to see the club return to Ron Stark Oval.

“The Seagulls are proud to continue our tradition of hosting our Indigenous Recognition match at Ron Stark Oval.

This is an important and highly anticipated fixture on our calendar, as it allows us to engage with the wonderful people on North Stradbroke Island, promote the Redlands Coast and also highlight some important messages for our community.

This year we take on the Souths Logan Magpies in what is sure to be another great game on the island.”

The Seagulls continue a longstanding partnership with Deadly Choices and Redland City Council to deliver the annual event.

Adrian Carson, CEO of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health, the governing body of Deadly Choices said that the Institute values the partnership and what it has achieved.

“At Deadly Choices, we educate our youth about the negative impacts of social activities such as smoking and drinking alcohol, while also advocating positive schooling behaviour,” said Mr Carson.

“This makes our partnership with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls a perfect fit, by allowing us to highlight critical health services to local communities in and around the Redlands Shire and right across south-east Queensland.

Our annual showcase at Straddie also provides a chance to acknowledge and celebrate the cultural significance and valued contributions of the local Quandamooka people as traditional owners and custodians of the land.”

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said this long-standing event was good for both North Stradbroke Island and the wider Redlands Coast community.

“This annual match is a wonderful way to showcase the culture that we are privileged to have here, especially that of the Noonuccal, Nughi and Gorenpul people of Quandamooka Country,” Cr Williams said.

“As Queensland, Australia and the world tune in for the game, Redlands Coast will be proudly broadcasting the outstanding backdrop of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and Southern Moreton Bay.

“This game will provide positive exposure and tourism attention for Straddie and the broader Redlands Coast area.”

Activities and curtain raiser games will commence at 10.00AM, with the Hastings Deering Colts to kick off after the Intrust Super Cup at 3.30PM.

Further updates and information will be posted on the Seagulls’ pages in the coming weeks.
