Team of Decade Hooker & Utility Announced

For the past few weeks Seagulls fans have been voting on their Team of the Decade and a very impressive lineup has come together that would no doubt be a premiership favourite.

There are a few positions and bench still to be selected but the Club felt it that it would be appropriate to allocate the Hooker and Utility positions without opening to a public vote.

At Hooker the Club has selected Mitchell Cronin and in the Utility position, Jake Granville.

Fresh off winning the utility position for the QRL Intrust Super Cup Team of 25 years, Granville was a fan favourite and livewire for the Seagulls through the early part of the decade, winning the 2011 Grand Final from Fullback and 2012 from Hooker, showing his true versatility.

Granville has since gone on to the play for the North Queensland Cowboys and win one Premiership (2015) and play in two Grand Finals (2015, 2017).

At Hooker the Club has selected Mitchell Cronin, who took up the mantle of the Hooking role in the back half of the decade and captained the side in 2019 as they went all the way to the Grand Final.

Cronin sadly passed away earlier this year, leaving an enormous legacy behind as both a footballer and high-quality person. Seagulls CEO Laban said of Cronin

“From the moment he arrived at Wynnum he embodied the values of the Seagulls through his positive attitude, strong work ethic, and deep care for his teammates and his club.

“He was a fantastic leader who was genuine, caring and selfless with his actions.

“Mitch was a quiet achiever with a humble nature, who did not need to say too much to be held with enormous respect by his peers.

Stay tuned each week as we debate and subsequently announce each position and winner chosen by the fans.
